Tom lived nearly a century (99 years) as an Oregonian through and through. His father was one of the founders of the Mazamas climbing organization and his great grandfather was a founder of Good Samaritan Hospital and an original owner of Swan Island. Tom’s love of Oregon transferred to the Columbia Gorge and he was a committed member of Friends of the Columbia Gorge from its inception until his death. Knowing a thing or two about longevity, Tom set up the Thomas and Mary Holman Endowment to insure our organization will remain strong into the next century and capable of fending off threats to the Gorge such as oil and coal exports.
